LN: What genre do you write in?
AC: I’ve got to the point where I say to people, you decide. I’ve had people tell me it’s all kinds of things but I listen to all kinds of things. If people say it’s rock, that’s usually because they hear a touch of psychedelia in there. I think you can turn a song into any genre, I just stick to my instincts when it comes to what sounds best.
LN: Your vocals are very strong and distinctive, is that the common thread?
AC: It’s one thread, but only one. I sing the songs I’ve written and I play guitar, so you could say that puts me into that singer-songwriter category. But I’ve noticed that all the things people mention about my music are probably bedded in a blend of soul or blues.
LN: What do you write about?
AC: The songs always have to stand for themselves...
